Connecticut Open

Former Wimbledon (2003) and US Open (1998) finalist Mark Philippoussis will replace an injured Mardy Fish in the PowerShares Series Event at the Connecticut Open. Nicknamed “Scud” for his booming serve, the Australian won 11 titles during his career and competed in the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. On Thursday evening, August 25, following the Connecticut Open WTA quarterfinal, John McEnroe will play James Blake, and on Friday evening, August 26, following the WTA semifinal, Andy Roddick will match up with Philippoussis, with the winners of each matchup competing in a final on Friday night. The men’s matches will all be one set each.

Mark will be a welcomed addition to our Legends event with his big serve and big personality.  His match with Andy will be a clinic in how to bring the heat.  We were disappointed to lose Mardy and hope he is back on court soon.”

While the excitement of world-class tennis takes place on the court, fans can also enjoy a weeklong festival of off-court entertainment, experiential activities, local food trucks, live music and special events. The tournament also invites fans to support various Connecticut nonprofit and charitable causes throughout tournament week related to women’s, youth, military, hunger and other sponsor-related causes.
